WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This is a course for rehabilitation professionals (and students) looking to refine their understanding to the fundamental principles of working with patients. The emphasis will be placed on the complete and proper rehabilitation of shoulder injuries.
Course description
If you work with THROWING athletes, developing a keen understanding of shoulder mechanics in the presence of pain is essential to facilitate optimal outcomes. This 2-day course is designed for practitioners looking to be fast tracked when it comes to transforming the lives of pitchers and overhead athletes of all sporting activities out of the traditional medical model for the treatment of common shoulder conditions and back to consistent, healthy & active living. An emphasis will be placed on communication strategies, motivational strategies, and an extensive biomechanical analysis as it relates to addressing the current evidence regarding the PERSON in pain (an enactive approach). Cognitive biases and common rehabilitation myths will be a primary focus of the first half of the course considering that patients often present to our clinics with pre-determined notions of what caused their ailment, in addition to what several other individuals have told them to be going on, which oftentimes contradicts the current available evidence for that condition. An example of this is the current increase in cortisone injections for rotator cuff tendinopathy. This poses a unique set of challenges for modern, evidence-based practitioners that often go under-appreciated and result in patients not "buying in" to your treatment plan.
While this course is not a business course, there are several topics of discussion that overlap between the common motivational interviewing techniques and the sales of our services for patients that seamlessly fit into the patient encounter.
This course is PACE Approved for chiropractors.
